Roadrunner Email Settings for Outlook

Before you begin, make sure you have your Roadrunner email address and password ready. Use these settings to configure Outlook for your Roadrunner email.

Step-by-Step Setup for Outlook (Windows)

Outlook 2016, 2019, 2021, and Microsoft 365:

  1. Open Outlook and go to File → Add Account
  2. Enter your Roadrunner email address and click Connect
  3. If prompted, enter your password and click Connect
  4. If automatic setup fails, click "Let me set up my account manually"
  5. Select IMAP as the account type
  6. Enter the following information:
    • Incoming mail server: mobile.charter.net
    • Outgoing mail server: mobile.charter.net
    • Email Address: Your full Roadrunner email
    • User Name: Your full Roadrunner email
    • Password: Your Roadrunner password
  7. Click More Settings
  8. Go to Outgoing Server tab:
    • Check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
    • Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  9. Go to Advanced tab:
    • Incoming server (IMAP): Port 993, Encryption SSL/TLS
    • Outgoing server (SMTP): Port 587, Encryption TLS
  10. Click OKNextFinish

Step-by-Step Setup for Outlook for Mac

  1. Open Outlook for Mac
  2. Go to ToolsAccounts
  3. Click the + sign and select New Account
  4. Enter your Roadrunner email address and click Continue
  5. If automatic setup fails, click Configure Manually
  6. Select IMAP as account type
  7. Enter the following settings:
    • Email Address: Your full Roadrunner email
    • Username: Your full Roadrunner email
    • Password: Your Roadrunner password
    • Incoming Server: mobile.charter.net
    • Incoming Port: 993

  8. Check "Use SSL to connect" for both incoming and outgoing
  9. Click Add Account to complete

Outlook Setup for Older Versions (Outlook 2010, 2013)

  1. Open Outlook and go to FileInfoAdd Account
  2. Select "Manually configure server settings or additional server types"
  3. Select Internet Email and click Next
  4. Enter your information:
    • Your Name: Your display name
    • Email Address: Your full Roadrunner email
    • Account Type: IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: mobile.charter.net
    • Outgoing mail server: mobile.charter.net
    • User Name: Your full Roadrunner email
    • Password: Your Roadrunner password
  5. Click More SettingsOutgoing Server tab
  6. Check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
  7. Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  8. Go to Advanced tab:
    • Incoming server (IMAP): 993, SSL/TLS
    • Outgoing server (SMTP): 587, TLS
  9. Click OKNextFinish

💡 Important Setup Tips:

  • Use your FULL email address as the username (including @roadrunner.com or @rr.com)
  • IMAP is recommended as it syncs emails across all your devices
  • If using POP3, you may lose emails if your device is damaged or lost
  • Make sure Outlook is updated to the latest version
  • Disable antivirus email scanning temporarily if setup fails

Troubleshooting Outlook Setup Issues

Test Account Settings Failing

  • Authentication Failed: Verify email and password are correct
  • Server Not Found: Check server names are spelled correctly: mobile.charter.net
  • Connection Issues: Temporarily disable firewall/antivirus
  • Port Blocked: Try alternative ports (993 for IMAP, 587 for SMTP)

Can't Send Emails

  • Verify "My outgoing server requires authentication" is checked
  • Check SMTP port is 587 with TLS encryption
  • Try using port 465 with SSL as alternative
  • Check if your ISP blocks port 25

Can't Receive Emails

  • Verify incoming server is mobile.charter.net
  • Check IMAP port is 993 with SSL/TLS
  • Test with POP3 settings as alternative
  • Check if account is locked or password expired

Outlook Prompts for Password Repeatedly

  • Go to Control Panel → Credential Manager → Windows Credentials
  • Remove any saved credentials for Roadrunner/Spectrum
  • Restart Outlook and re-enter password
  • Update to latest version of Outlook

After Successful Setup

Once your Roadrunner email is configured in Outlook:

  • Test Sending/Receiving: Send a test email to verify everything works
  • Configure Folders: Set up folder synchronization if needed
  • Set Signature: Create an email signature in File → Options → Mail
  • Adjust Send/Receive: Set automatic send/receive intervals in Send/Receive settings
  • Backup Settings: Export your account settings for future reference
