Common SMTP Issues and Solutions
"Cannot Send Mail" Error
- Check Authentication: Ensure "Require Authentication" is enabled
- Verify Password: Your email password is correct
- Port Settings: Try port 587 instead of 465
- Network Connection: Check your internet connection
SMTP Server Not Responding
- Try using "mail.twc.com" as SMTP server
- Switch between ports 587, 465, and 25
- Disable VPN temporarily
- Check if your ISP blocks port 25 (use 587 instead)
Authentication Failed
- Use full email address as username (including @roadrunner.com)
- Reset your password if recently changed
- Check if account is locked due to multiple failed attempts
- Wait 15-30 minutes and try again
Email Sending Slowly
- Check your internet connection speed
- Reduce attachment sizes (max 25MB)
- Try using a different SMTP port
- Contact your ISP about throttling
Important SMTP Notes:
- SMTP authentication is MANDATORY for sending emails
- Use your full email address as the username
- Some networks may block port 25; use port 587 as an alternative
- If using Spectrum internet, SMTP should work without additional settings
- For Spectrum Business accounts, settings may differ
Testing Your SMTP Configuration
After configuring SMTP settings, test them by:
- Sending a test email to yourself
- Checking the "Sent" folder to confirm delivery
- Sending an email to another account (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)
- Checking for bounce-back error messages
Alternative: Use Webmail for Sending
If SMTP configuration continues to fail, you can always use Roadrunner Webmail to send emails from any browser without needing SMTP settings.
